President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Tegbe, a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, as Minister of Power, replacing Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the nomination has been forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.

Tegbe currently serves as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees efforts to strengthen development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.

According to the presidency, the nomination is aimed at reinforcing ongoing reforms in the power sector, improving grid stability, and attracting sustainable investment under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

An indigene of Oyo State, Tegbe brings over 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors, with a strong background in fiscal policy, institutional reform, and governance. During his tenure at KPMG Africa, he led major initiatives focused on economic reform, regulatory frameworks, and investment structuring.

The presidency also highlighted his experience within the power sector, including engagements involving the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company, particularly in areas of regulatory and institutional reform.

Onanuga stated that the President expects the minister-designate, upon confirmation, to leverage his expertise to advance critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector.

Analysts say the nomination signals a continued focus on structural reforms and private sector-driven investment as the government seeks to address longstanding challenges in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
