The Lagos State Government has issued a notice on traffic restrictions in several parts of the state to facilitate the smooth commissioning of key infrastructure projects scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9, 2026.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, explained that the temporary road closures and diversions are essential for public safety and to ensure the events proceed without hitches. Motorists have been strongly advised to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid affected areas during the specified periods.
Affected Areas and Timelines:
**Wednesday, April 8 (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.)**
The Opebi-Mende Link Bridge will be commissioned, leading to partial closures around the Opebi-Allen, Ikeja, and Ojota corridors. Commuters in these areas should explore alternative routes to avoid heavy congestion.
**Thursday, April 9 (9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.)**
The Tolu Schools Complex in the Olodi-Apapa and Ajegunle axis will be unveiled. Traffic is expected to be impacted significantly in these neighbourhoods, and drivers are urged to use bypass routes and allocate extra time for travel.
**Thursday, April 9 (4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.)**
Another high-profile event will take place at Eko Hotel and surrounding areas in Victoria Island. Motorists are advised to steer clear of the Victoria Island corridor during these hours or prepare for possible delays.
The state government has deployed officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other traffic agencies to manage flow and support road users. Reports indicate that 500 additional LASTMA officers have been mobilised for the exercise, which is expected to be attended by President Bola Tinubu.
Commissioner Osiyemi appealed to residents and motorists to cooperate with traffic officials and adhere to all directives during the period.
“These projects represent significant milestones in the state’s infrastructure development, and we seek the understanding and cooperation of all Lagosians to make the commissioning ceremonies successful,” he said.
Motorists are encouraged to stay updated via official channels and consider using public transport where possible to minimise inconvenience.
