Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of acting like an opposition force against the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Dalung, a chieftain of the ADC, made the remarks during an interview on Trust TV’s Daily Politics, where he criticised the electoral body’s conduct and handling of political affairs.

According to him, INEC’s actions have inadvertently driven more Nigerians to join the ADC. “The worst of all is when INEC began acting as the main opposition against the ADC; that was when we saw the highest number of people joining the party,” he said.

He further alleged that the commission has consistently operated outside the bounds of the law, describing its conduct as “impunity and recklessness.”

“As a lawyer, I am yet to clearly identify the legal basis for some of the powers INEC continues to exercise,” Dalung stated, adding that the commission appears to act without accountability while maintaining what he described as an unjustified sense of authority.

INEC has not responded to the claims at the time of filing this report.
