The appointment was disclosed in a notice filed with the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) and signed by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Oghale Elueni. According to the filing, the appointment followed the approval of the Board of Directors at its meeting held on the same day.

What the data is saying
The appointment reflects PZ Cussons’ continued focus on strengthening its corporate governance and regulatory compliance framework. The role of Company Secretary has become increasingly important for listed companies, serving as the key link between the board of directors, management, shareholders, and regulators while ensuring compliance with statutory and corporate governance requirements.
Ogefere’s background in regulatory affairs and compliance suggests that the company is bringing in a professional with extensive experience navigating Nigeria’s regulatory environment. Her previous responsibilities at Nigerian Breweries included managing compliance obligations and data protection matters, areas that have become increasingly important as listed companies face stricter governance, disclosure, and privacy requirements.
Her experience across company secretarial practice, legal advisory, board governance, and regulatory compliance is expected to support the board in meeting its governance responsibilities, maintaining regulatory compliance, and ensuring adherence to the disclosure obligations required of companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange.
The appointment also highlights the growing emphasis Nigerian listed companies are placing on strengthening governance structures as investors increasingly assess environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards alongside financial performance when making investment decisions.
